For planning purposes related to the potential need for emergency mass vaccination clinics, Connecticut has been divided into 41 regions. Each region has as its leader a full-time health department to facilitate planning and coordination of resources. Waterbury Health Department is the lead agency for the public health emergency planning area which includes the city of Waterbury.Volunteers are being recruited to staff positions in mass vaccination clinics in the event of an emergency. Positions within the mass vaccination clinics are divided into two categories: non-medical and medical. Non-medical volunteers will assist with the administrative and operational functions of the clinic, including forms distribution, educational material distribution, security, flow of people both to the clinic and through the clinic, data entry of medical records, translators and control of the supplies needed for the clinic to function. Medically trained volunteers, due to the specialized training and licensing required for these positions, will assist with vaccinating, medical screening, triage of the ill and vaccine preparation.
