State agency works to prevent disease and promotes the public's health through programs and by providing general information about health related issues. Agency monitors infectious diseases, environmental and occupational health hazards, licenses health care practitioners and health care institutions, emergency medical services, and maintains the repository of all birth and death certificates. DPH investigates complaints and answers inquiries about health and mental health care providers and health care facilities. DPH also provides oversight and technical assistance to local public health departments, community clinics, and school based health clinics.
