Note: Starting on October 1, 2024 the eligibility income guideline for this program will drop to 138% from 160% of the Federal Poverty Level. Individuals that are currently receiving benefits will receive notification and will automatically be enrolled in one of two yearlong extensions of HUSKY A coverage: Transitional Medical Assistance (TMA) for those with income from a job, or Extended Medical Assistance (EMA) for those with income from spousal support. Individuals not eligible for the extension will be able to enroll in a Qualified Health Plan (QHP) through Access Health CT. Most individuals who enroll in a QHP are eligible for financial help, including no cost coverage through the Covered Connecticut Program
HUSKY insurance plan provides health coverage, including medical, dental, vision, and prescription health care for parents or caretaker relatives who have a child/children on HUSKY A and whose income is at or below 138%. Coverage for just a child/children is provided when income is at or below 201% of the Federal Poverty Level.
Parents or caretaker relatives who have a child/children on HUSKY A, is living with the HUSKY A-eligible child, and whose income is at or below 138% of the Federal Poverty Level; Coverage for just a child/children is provided when income is at or below 201% of the Federal Poverty Level; No asset limits; Must be U.S. citizen or have permanent resident status for at least 5 years to be eligible; Parent is ineligible if not willing to comply with child support enforcement requirements; Caretaker relatives DO NOT need to have legal custody of a child living with them in order to apply for HUSKY for themselves or the child

State agency administers state and federal cash assistance, SNAP/food stamp and medical insurance programs for low income individuals, individuals who are elderly or disabled, and refugees. Cash or medical insurance programs include Temporary Family Assistance (TFA); State Administered General Cash Assistance (SAGA); State Supplement for the Aged, Blind and Disabled (State Supplement); Medicaid; and other medical expense or personal care assistance programs for special populations. DSS also administers funding for child support enforcement services, energy assistance, rental assistance, emergency housing programs, burial funds for the indigent, and protective services for the elderly.
