DMHAS Eastern regional women's service consultant works with providers to identify women with treatment needs who are appropriate for obtaining services at the level of care provided by DMHAS funded Women and Children's Specialty Program. Clients are linked with appropriate level of care for the period that they are on the waiting list for the Women and Children's Specialty Program. Supportive services while they are waiting for placement, such as transportation, linkage to child care, assistance obtaining medical clearance, are provided to eliminate possible barriers to treatment. (Women and Children's Specialty Programs are programs in Connecticut that take pregnant women and women with their young children into an intensive day treatment program or a residential substance abuse treatment program.)

Behavioral health services agency offers residential and outpatient services for alcohol and drug addiction. Additional services and programs include mental health care, housing assistance, therapeutic foster care, alternative sentencing programs, ex-offender services, counseling for sexual offenders, shelter for adult men and women who are homeless, and special substance abuse treatment programs for pregnant women and women with children.
