SCHOOL
CLOTHES AND SCHOOL SUPPLIES
Suggestions for families in
Connecticut seeking basic school supplies and
school clothing for their children:
- Families in need who live in
medium or small sized towns may be able to get
help from the town’s social service
department. Some towns have small foundations
or other charities that help with money or
vouchers. Big city social service departments
usually do not provide financial help to
individuals.
- Parents can contact their
child’s school and speak to the school
principal, social worker, or their child’s
teacher to see if they can help or if they
have any ideas.
- Local Salvation Army Corps and
Extension Units may assist.
- If your child’s school requires
a uniform, ask if the school offers a uniform
exchange program as an alternative to buying a
new uniform. Also, ask neighbors and friends
with older children if they have any outgrown
uniforms.
- If the child’s teacher belongs
to the Connecticut Education Foundation the
teacher can apply to the Children’s Fund for
assistance. (Parents cannot apply directly.)
NOTE: Not all teachers belong to this union.
- If the family is involved with
a community agency or a church they can check
to see if the agency or church offers a
program for members in need.
