ONLINE SUPPORT GROUPS
- Online support groups provide an alternative method of support for people in distress by linking people with similar issues.
- They have the potential to improve the access and delivery of support to a wide range of people, including some who may not seek or who may be unable to seek face-to-face support.
- They reduce the sense of isolation caused by geographic or physical/mental constraints and increase feelings of validation.
HOW TO FIND AN ONLINE SUPPORT GROUP:
- Ask a health care provider for assistance
- Ask a genetic counselor (found at genetic clinics in hospitals)
- Contact a reference librarian at your local library
- Contact state or national organizations devoted to your disease or condition
- Ask others you know with the same illness or life situation
- Search the Internet
