INFERTILITY

Infertility is a disease or condition of the reproductive system often diagnosed after a couple has had no pregnancies after one year of unprotected, well-timed intercourse, or if the woman has been unable to carry a pregnancy that results in a live birth.

Infertility is a medical problem. Infertility affects men and women equally.

DO INSURANCE PLANS COVER INFERTILITY TREATMENT?

Public Act 05-196 requires certain individual and group health policies to cover medically necessary costs of diagnosing and treating infertility. The Act defines infertility as "the condition of a presumably healthy individual who is unable to conceive or produce conception or sustain a successful pregnancy during a one-year period.
