DAY LABORERS AND THEIR RIGHT TO BE PAID

Day laborers are entitled to wages earned, regardless of immigration status. However, day laborers will sometimes find work with an employer who refuses to pay them their wages. If the day worker is an illegal immigrant, he or she could be unaware of their rights or be afraid to pursue them.

Under Connecticut and federal law, people must be paid for work they perform regardless of their immigration status. Connecticut Legal Services (CLS) staffs a Day Laborer Wage Clinic in Stamford, offering free legal services to day laborers who have been denied their pay. The clinics are offered at the Stamford office of CLS, on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of each month, from 6pm-8pm. No appointment is necessary. For more information call (203) 348-9216.
