WHAT IS THE CORRECTIONAL OMBUDSMAN
Connecticut Correctional Ombudsman Inc., is a private non-profit corporation that operates under an agreement with the Connecticut Department of Corrections. The Ombudsman is an impartial, independent agent who takes complaints about the Department of Corrections, from inmates in state correctional institutions, and seeks to resolve them.
HOW TO SUBMIT A COMPLAINT
Some issues that may be cause for a complaint:
- treatment by the Dept. of Corrections which violates the law or departmental rules and regulations
- treatment which is unreasonable, unfair, or unjust
- institutional rules or regulations which are unreasonable or unjust
- unauthorized action by officials which an inmate does not understand
- errors in records or decisions based on misinformation.
Inmates must first use the Inmate Grievance Procedure before seeking assistance from the ombudsman. If the complaint is not resolved, inmates may then submit complaints to the ombudsman by completing a request form and putting it in the box for inmate requests, or in the Ombudsman box (where available), or sending the request by mail to Conn. Correctional Ombudsman, 110 Bartholomew Ave., Suite 4010 Hartford CT 06106.
