BURIAL EXPENSE ASSISTANCE
GOVERNMENT PROGRAMS THAT PAY A PORTION OF THE FUNERAL EXPENSES OF ELIGIBLE INDIVIDUALS:

Anyone receiving Social Security is entitled to a lum sum death benefit of $255. The benefit is paid only if there is a surviving spouse or surviving children under the age of 18.

The Connecticut Dept. of Social Services will pay up to $1800, less any assets in the deceased’s estate, toward burial or cremation expenses of any individual. There is no restriction; however, assets may offset all or part of the benefit.

The Veterans Administration will pay up to $2000 for reimbursement of burial or cremation expenses if the veteran's death is service connected. The VA will also pay a $300 burial or cremation and funeral allowance and a $300 plot allowance for eligible veterans.
