EPSDT/WELL CHILD VISITS

WHAT IS EPSDT?

EPSDT is the Early and Periodic Screening, Diagnosis and Treatment Program. EPSDT is sometimes also known as Health Track in Connecticut. Every person up to age 21 who is eligible for Medicaid/HUSKY A is entitled to receive a comprehensive set of health care services under the EPSDT program.

WHAT IS AN EPSDT EXAM?

When seeing doctor for an EPSDT exam (sometimes this is called a well child visit), your child or teenager should receive the following health checks:

  • A complete physical exam (unclothed)
  • Eye and hearing tests
  • Lab tests, including lead levels, if needed
  • Prescriptions, if needed
  • Immunizations, if needed
  • Dental assessment
  • Health education about issues of concern for your and your children or teens
  • Nutrition assessment
  • Development assessment

Ask your doctor for the results of the exam. If there is a problem, he or she should refer your child or teen for further care.
