2-1-1 Call Specialist, 2nd Shift (Temporary Position)

SALARY RANGE: $14.90 – $16.34 per hour
HOURS AVAILABLE:
- Sunday through Thursday 3:00 pm – 11:30 pm
- Tuesday through Saturday 3:00 pm – 11:30 pm
- Temporary position with possible transfer to regular full time status.
POSITION SUMMARY: 2-1-1 Call Specialists have both individual and shared responsibility and accountability for delivering quality, professional help to callers. The 2-1-1 Call Specialist is 2-1-1’s Health & Human Service front-line representative to the public. 2-1-1 Call Specialists are active participants in the team and contribute to the success and performance of the team. The 2-1-1 Call Specialist takes calls on a scheduled basis that varies among first, second and/or third shifts. Calls range from providing immediate simple information to cases of complex social problems involving time spent in research, advocacy, and crisis intervention.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Bachelor's Degree in social work, psychology, sociology, counseling, or related fields plus one year experience working in a human services position OR Associate’s Degree in social work, psychology, sociology, counseling, or related fields plus three years experience working in a human services position.
- Knowledge of a foreign language, particularly Spanish, is desirable.
- Ability to use the computer to complete job functions.
- Ability to relate effectively with people from all economic, racial, age, ethnic, and social groups.
- Strong desire to provide appropriate help and assistance to any person in need.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to adapt to a changing caseload while maintaining standards of high quality.
- Willingness to stay informed on human services in general.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Answers 2-1-1 Health and Human Service calls on an assigned schedule.
- Works effectively as a team member.
- Assesses caller’s needs and makes accurate referrals to appropriate community agencies, programs and services.
- Provides crisis intervention to callers in crisis, including suicide.
- Researches requests for information through Information Services.
- Serves as an advocate for individuals experiencing difficulties or lacking in abilities needed to make effective contacts with agencies, programs or groups.
- Follows up on all cases according to established protocols.
- Documents narrative and statistical records accurately on all caller contacts.
- Works toward achieving departmental goals and established metrics.
- Stays informed on broad social issues, programs, and changes in services.
- Represents 2-1-1 Health & Human Services effectively to agencies and groups both on the telephone and in person.
- Attends staff meetings, conferences and workshops in order to improve professional skills.
- Works on a shift other than regularly scheduled one, as needed.
- Provides pager coverage as scheduled.

Finance Director
United Way of Western Connecticut
United Way of Western Connecticut is currently seeking a Finance Director. This position is responsible for the financial accountability and reporting of United Way funds. The position will manage all financial, accounting, pledge processing and administrative support operations, and ensures compliance with fiscal procedures and controls.
Qualifications:
- BA/BS degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance or related field or extensive hands-on non-profit accounting experience required, special certificate (such as CPA) or Masters degree preferred.
- Broad-based, focused knowledge across disciplines such as management and organizational dynamics acquired through progressive management training and practice.
- Seven or more years experience in accounting and financial management with progressive responsibility.
- Three or more years of accounting experience must have been in a non profit organization.
- Three or more years experience in a supervisory position preferred.
- Computer experience with Microsoft products, particularly Word and Excel. Hands-on experience with computerized accounting and pledge management systems required.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and train staff.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize and develop a plan of action with staff, committee members and volunteers.
- Must be a team player.
